Do you even need conventional cancer treatments?

(This is the second of two articles reporting on the 2017 Annie Appleseed cancer conference in West Palm Beach, Florida)

Dr. Michael Schachter, M.D., of New York, was the keynote speaker at this year’s Annie Appleseed cancer conference. He’s one of America’s most outstanding cancer doctors.

Dr. Schachter expressed concern that integrative cancer doctors – those who combine alternatives with mainstream medicine – too often accept chemo and radiation as a “given” and use alternative treatments only to supplement the conventional treatments.

Dr. Schachter believes it makes more sense to use non-toxic methods first and only use conventional treatments if necessary as a last resort.

He remarked, “Might patients do even better by not doing the conventional therapy at all in some cases? That’s the question that’s not being asked! Rarely is it asked whether adding conventional treatment might interfere with the alternative treatment.”

German tycoon quits business
opens new kind of cancer center,
and stuns doctors with “impossible” cures…

As a last resort, 67 so-called “terminally ill” stage four cancer patients went to the tycoon’s new cancer center: over half of them whipped their cancer!

A baffled radiologist told the tycoon, “I don’t understand why the PET scans of your cancer patients look different.”

Perplexed doctors are scratching their heads.

How did this retired German businessman cure many of the “terminal” stage four cancer patients they’d sent home to die?

Avoid excessive blasts of radiation!

Dr. Schachter cautioned against PET and CT scans. He said a CT scan blasts the patient with 100 times the radiation of a single chest X-ray. Even worse is a PET scan, which nukes the patient with 500 times the radiation of a chest X-ray! Yet cancer doctors routinely order these tests, even though it’s a well-established fact that radiation is one of the causes of cancer.

What’s more, a tumor isn’t as dangerous to the patient as the cancer stem cells, which only occupy one percent of the tumor. It’s the cancer stem cells that metastasize. Dr. Schachter recommended the two plant extracts that another speaker, Sylvie Beljanski, had featured in her talk: Pao pereira, a tree native to the Amazon rain forest, and Rauwolfia vomitoria, an African plant now grown in other parts of the world. More on these later in this article.

While the cancer treatment industry claims to be making progress, Dr. Schachter pointed out that cancer death rates haven’t changed since the 1950s. He criticized conventional treatments for aiming to kill cancer cells with little concern for the bad effects on normal cells.

Indeed, what good does it do to poison the cancer if the treatment also poisons the patient? It’s common for cancer patients to die from the conventional treatments rather than from the cancer itself.

Some cancer patients are so desperate they leap at the chance to participate in a clinical trial. But Dr. Schachter frowns on clinical trials because no patient can be accepted into a clinical trial without first undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, which compromise or destroy the immune system.

In Dr. Schachter’s opinion, the clinicians are more interested in the trial than in the patient. Another disadvantage of trials is that the patients have only a 50-50 chance of getting the drug that’s being tested: half of the patients receive a placebo (a blank pill, also known as a “sugar pill”). Dr. Schachter rarely sees patients benefit from clinical trials.

Magnetic therapy: “a potential game changer”

Dr. Schachter mentioned that he’s impressed with the effect of Bemer therapy on cancer patients. The Bemer device, which is used in nearly all of the alternative cancer clinics in Germany that I’ve visited, is a mat that gives the patient optimal PEMF (pulsed electro-magnetic frequencies).

Dr. Schachter said, “The Bemer is a potential game changer. It causes an increase of about 30 percent in micro-circulation all over the body. This increases oxygen and helps get rid of the waste. Bemer therapy takes only eight minutes, twice a day. It’s easy. You lie on this mat. You feel relaxation or a slight warmth.”

One of Germany’s top doctors, Frank Daudert, M.D., told me the Bemer also boosts the immune system and increases natural killer cells by 20 to 25 percent. Many cancer patients buy a Bemer for home use. (For info about the Bemer, contact Anne Bernard, naturopath: [email protected].)

Has cancer research accomplished anything?

President Richard Nixon famously declared war on cancer in 1971. Since that time, the government has spent 1.6 billion dollars on cancer research in quest of a cure. What are the results of this research?

Dr. Schachter drew the audience’s attention to an article, “Cancer Undefeated,” by a distinguished physician, John C. Bailar, M.D. In that article, which appeared in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine (May 29, 1997, 336:1569-1574), Dr. Bailar expressed deep skepticism that “marvelous new treatments for cancer are just waiting to be discovered.”

He pointed out the obvious failure of cancer researchers. In response, the cancer research industry attacked Dr. Bailar mercilessly.

Even today, 20 years later, the cancer research industry appears to be an abysmal failure.

In contrast to this failure, Dr. Schachter has had considerable success using natural treatments. Because anti-inflammatories inhibit cancer stem cell growth, he recommends such substances as curcumin, black cumin seeds, cruciferous vegetables, vitamin D, boswellia, and aloe vera extract. In addition, he tests each cancer patient for iodine — and typically finds a deficiency.

Dr. Schachter has found in his practice that the patient’s body has the ability to heal itself, given the right conditions. He said cancer patients should avoid or reduce toxic substances and toxic energies and supply what the body needs: oxygen, water, food, nutrition, and sunlight.

The orthodontist who became a cancer guru

Dr. Linda Isaacs, M.D., a colleague of the late legendary Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, M.D., told the Annie Appleseed audience the story of an orthodontist, Dr. William Donald Kelley (1925-2005).

Dr. Kelley, one of the most famous figures in alternative cancer treatment, cured his own “incurable” pancreatic cancer. He had become little more than skin and bones, except for the gigantic tumor sticking out of his abdomen. But he had young children and strong reasons to live, so he tried something radical: he went raw vegetarian.

Although this eating plan stabilized his disease, he still experienced major digestive problems. A pharmacist advised him to take pancreatic enzymes, and this remedy was a breakthrough in his course of treatment. His tumor, which had been rock hard, became soft and squishy as it shrank and disintegrated.

Dr. Isaacs pointed out that, for more than a century, patients have employed the pancreatic enzyme cure for cancer. In 1911, Dr. James Beard, who has been called the most boring person who ever lived, wrote the book The Enzyme Treatment of Cancer and its Scientific Basis.

Around the same time, a more exciting scientist, Madame Marie Curie, dazzled the world with a cancer treatment that had more sizzle: radiation! The rest, as they say, is history. It’s too bad the medical world ignored Dr. Beard and embraced radiation as a standard cancer treatment. Ironically, Madame Curie died of radiation poisoning.

The orthodontist’s cancer cure

Following Dr. Kelley’s pancreatic enzyme cure, patients started to come to him not to have their teeth straightened out but to have their cancer straightened out. He wrote a self-help book entitled One Answer to Cancer, which caused consternation in the medical community.

One of the people who sought help from Dr. Kelley for his “incurable” cancer was movie star Steve McQueen, who had gone through chemo and radiation without success. McQueen had one of the nastiest cancers, mesothelioma, but was actually reversing it with natural medicine and might well have survived. He died on the operating table during an elective procedure.

Around 1983, Dr. Kelley met Dr. Gonzalez, who embraced his methods and achieved extraordinary success for patients suffering from tough, deadly cancers.

In 1993 Dr. Gonzalez presented 25 cases of enzyme-based cancer therapy to the National Cancer Institute and insisted that they consider his powerful, incontrovertible evidence. The one-year survival rate for Dr. Gonzalez’s terminal patients was 81 percent compared to 25 percent for patients who underwent conventional treatment. The two-year survival rate was 45 percent for Dr. Gonzalez’s enzyme therapy patients compared to 10 percent for patients in conventional treatment.

The cancer establishment pulled out all the stops to discredit Dr. Kelley and Dr. Gonzalez, but these two doctors produced impressive evidence that enzyme therapy beats conventional cancer treatment hands down.

Dr. Isaacs finished her talk by telling stories of remarkable cancer recoveries.

  • In December of 2000 a lady’s PET scan showed a pancreatic mass, which a biopsy later found to be a deadly cancer. She refused surgery and was declined for a clinical trial because she was eligible for surgery. She started the enzyme protocol in April of 2001 and took no chemo or radiation. As of December, 2016 she was alive and well.
  • In August of 2008 a woman had a football-sized mass in her back and two large tumors in her thorax. She was treated with aggressive chemo, without success. Doctors told her she was terminal. In February of 2009 she began enzyme therapy with Dr. Gonzalez. By the following March she was clear, and she’s still alive and well.
  • In October of 1995 a man with non-Hodgkin lymphoma refused all conventional treatment and started the enzyme protocol instead. A CT scan in May of 2001 showed complete regression. As of September, 2016 he was alive and well at the age of 60 and was building a retaining wall in his backyard.

One wonders how the cancer treatment industry can continue to ignore the powerful evidence that natural medicine beats chemo and radiation hands down.

Cancer survivors tell their personal stories

One of the most popular features of the Annie Appleseed conference is the Patient Panel, in which cancer patients describe their own experiences. One of the speakers this year was Annie Brandt, the author of The Healing Platform: Build Your Own Cure! She’s a 15-year survivor of end-stage metastatic breast cancer, and her story is amazing.

In 1992 Annie Brandt was a computer executive working 80 hours a week. She burned herself out and was diagnosed with immune dysfunction syndrome. Her response? “OK, where’s my pill?” She had assumed the doctor would write a prescription for a medication that would solve the problem.

But she found that her co-pay of $600 a month in pills was a waste. The pills weren’t working. She was in bed 21 hours a day, when she realized that the doctors couldn’t fix her but that she might be able to do something to fix herself.

Applying the principles of mind-body medicine gave her significant improvement, but one day she fell down vomiting and dizzy. She was diagnosed with M.S. and I.B.S. Doctors told her she would be in a wheelchair within six months and dead in a couple of years.

Annie was planning suicide when she heard a voice telling her, “Don’t worry. I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you.” She knew it was no human voice but could only have been the voice of God.

A double mastectomy? Not so fast!

She continued to struggle, and in 2001 she fell victim to another health setback — breast cancer. The doctor told her, “We’ve booked you for a double mastectomy on Tuesday, after which you’ll have chemo and radiation. Have a good weekend!”

She threw a gigantic pity party, as she described it, and was once again at the point of despair. Again, she heard the voice, “Don’t worry. I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you.”

That voice gave her the courage to get busy with research. When she found that chemo weakens the immune system, distorts the DNA of healthy cells, and promotes metastasis, she thought to herself, “Why would I want to do that?! If I’m going to die, I want to go with as much dignity and quality and grace as possible, and I want to go with the ‘girls.'”

She promptly cancelled the double mastectomy, even though the doctors tried to scare her by telling her she only had “three to six months to live.”

Annie beat her cancer by changing her attitude, getting rid of her “stinkin’ thinkin’,” praying, managing stress, and eating healthy food. She has found that there’s not just one anti-cancer eating plan but several, and she likes to “switch things around so that cancer doesn’t see me coming.”

“Let’s cut out your colon”

The other panelist was Chris Pedersen, who was referred for genetic testing in September of 2008 because a lot of polyps were found during her colonoscopy. A doctor told her, “You have a defective gene, which will give you a 99 percent chance of getting colon cancer, so let’s cut out your colon.” She thought, “What? Say that again. No. That’s barbaric!”

She had more colonoscopies, which found 15 more polyps; all of them were virulent. Her husband brought home some thick books, one of which was about nature’s cancer-fighting cures. She devoured the book and radically changed her lifestyle, especially her eating plan. She disengaged from sugar, to which she’d become addicted, and upped her intake of vegetables.

One year after starting her nutritional program she had a clean colonoscopy! Following this remarkable result, the doctor took her aside and said, “You know, you wouldn’t have to be going through this if you had your colon removed.” She looked at him as if he had two heads and thought to herself, “WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU!!! DON’T YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT I DID?” Apparently, he had no interest in how she’d achieved her health turnaround.

Chris is convinced that you can heal the body by nourishing it. She mentioned some of the nutritional supplements she found to be effective: laetrile, digestive enzymes, lysine, turmeric in a capsule, vitamin C, Vitæ Elixxir herbal extract, and beta glucan.

Medicinal mushrooms are rich
in immune-boosting beta glucan

Dr. Mark Kaylor, Ph.D., spoke about the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms. One fact about these mushrooms is that they contain immune-boosting beta glucan. In fact, Dr. Kaylor gave everyone in the audience a bottle of meshima mushroom extract because of its powerful immune-boosting and anti-tumor action.

This mushroom extract activates the immune system’s macrophages, which are like “PacMan,” gobbling up the bad things the body needs to get rid of. The mushroom also suppresses angiogenesis, the formation of a blood supply to the tumor. Without a blood supply, the tumor starves to death and disintegrates.

Another powerful anti-cancer mushroom is the maitake, which is not only edible but also delicious. Maitake contains a unique beta glucan that’s especially beneficial for breast cancer patients. For patients who choose to undergo chemo, maitake helps lessen the side effects. It also lowers blood sugar and helps improve insulin sensitivity.

Most cancer patients are overstressed, which weakens the immune system. Dr. Kaylor called the reishi mushroom “a champion at lowering stress.” Reishi boasts many health benefits. It helps improve sleep quality, strengthens the internal organs, improves memory, lowers blood pressure, and balances the nervous system. It’s also anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, and anti-tumor.

Dr. Kaylor asserted that reishi is also “safe for kids. There’s no need for ADHD drugs.” He called it “the tonic for the 21st century” and believes just about everyone should take it.

Cordyceps is another mushroom Dr. Kaylor strongly believes in. Because of its circulatory benefits, he declared, “Everybody over 50 should be on it.”

For those who are interested in taking high quality medicinal mushroom extracts, some of the top brands are Mushroom Wisdom, Fungi Perfecti, and Mushroom Science.

Conventional doctors ignore cancer stem cells!

Sylvie Beljanski, the daughter of the late French-Serbian molecular biologist Mirko Beljanski, gave a talk about plant extracts that kill stem cells. Her late father worked for 40 years at the Pasteur Institute in Paris researching natural cancer remedies. He discovered two plants in particular that kill cancer with remarkable effectiveness.

These plants — Pao pereira and Rauwolfia vomitoria — even kill cancer stem cells, the culprit in cancer metastasis. Cancer stem cells hide from scans: only one percent of cancer cells are cancer stem cells.

Conventional cancer doctors ignore the stem cells, focus on the other cells (the tumor mass), and give their patients a false sense of security when, after surgery and chemo, they declare, “We got it all.” No, they didn’t “get it all.”

Chemotherapy is generally ineffective against cancer stem cells. This is the main reason why cancer so often returns after patients appear to be cancer free. And that’s why Mirko Beljanski’s ground-breaking discoveries are so important. Today, Dr. Beljanski’s daughter Sylvie is the Vice President of the Beljanski Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting his discoveries.

An eating plan for gut health

One of Mexico’s finest cancer doctors, Dr. Rodrigo Rodriguez of Tijuana, gave a talk on how to improve your gut health through a good eating plan. He pointed out that there are an astounding 300 billion cells in the intestinal flora (friendly digestive microbes) and that these cells perform “a ton of functions that are fundamental to our life.” When gut health is out of balance, people become inflamed, sick, weak, and tired.

Dr. Rodriguez suggested that people eat one more vegetable a day and devote one meal — lunch — to intestinal health. For lunch, he recommended a rich salad with such ingredients as legumes, radishes, and sweet potatoes.

Incidentally, Dr. Rodriguez’s hospital, International BioCare, is one of the finest cancer hospitals in the world. It’s quite popular with the Amish, who prefer natural medicine to high tech conventional treatments.
