A real silver bullet for cancer?

A real silver bullet for cancer? about undefined

What caused him to do a "180" in just four years?

On The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2008, Dr. Oz called the use of colloidal silver old fashioned, out-of-date and potentially dangerous.

In 2012, on his own show, he described it as an effective sore throat remedy because, unlike other remedies, it addresses the root cause of the problem - the infection.

I don’t know what led to his change of heart, but afterwards there was no stopping him. What followed were some remarkable revelations. . .

60 is the New 40
Thanks to Telomere Science!

(No longer reserved for the very rich)

Only a few years ago, scientists identified a major cause of aging – and how you can stop it or even reverse it to stay young.

This secret to living a longer, more vibrant life is already sleeping in your cells. You just have to shake it awake!

But like many new discoveries, the technology you need to preserve your cells’ telomeres started out being extremely expensive. It could easily cost $10,000 or more. Only Hollywood moguls and other members of the wealthy one percent could afford it.

Now that’s changed – the breakthrough is affordable. Just imagine. . .

  • The legal and intoxicating "high" of youth...yours again!
  • The strength and vigor of your "roaring twenties"... returned!
  • The mental clarity you used to have... back to stay!

If you’d like to stay young (or just slow down how fast you’re getting old!)...

This may be the most important message you’ve ever received.

The world’s most trusted news outlets are calling it the biggest "against all odds" medical story so far in the 21st century... Everyone raves about it...

...AARP Magazine, CNN, Reader’s Digest, Popular Science, Smithsonian Magazine, BBC News, Oprah Magazine, Reuters, Scientific American, GQ, L.A. Times, The Daily Mail, USA Today, Vanity Fair, The Boston Globe, Shape Magazine, Glamour and The New York Times…

In 2013 his father-in-law, the world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Gerald Lemole, M.D. appeared as a guest and admitted he used it in his own household saying:

"Colloidal silver is antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral, and it’s really good stuff if you feel an oncoming sore throat, or even if you have a wound. You can spray it on..."

Dr. Oz readily agreed and reintroduced the subject later the same year. He said it was his family's everyday throat spray, that there's "a TON of data behind it" and it's "a very smart way of killing off stuff."

So smart, I might add, that forms of silver may even be able to treat cancer.

Long history of medical use

Silver's antimicrobial effects have been recognized for thousands of years. Around 400 BC, Hippocrates used preparations of silver to treat ulcers and wounds.

It was referred to in the Roman pharmacopoeia of 69 BC.

Avicenna (980-1037), who wrote over 40 books on medicine, used silver filings to treat halitosis and heart palpitations as well as to purify the blood.

In the Middle Ages, silver nitrate was used to treat disorders of the nervous system, and in 1897, silver foil and gauze was applied to wounds. It went on to become a popular remedy to treat infections of the eyes, teeth and gums, and as a wound dressing before the age of antibiotics.

Medical silver expert Dr. Alan Lansdown, Honorary Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology at Imperial College London, sums up silver's medical uses today:

"It has been developed for use in water purification, wound care, bone prostheses, reconstructive orthopaedic surgery, cardiac devices, catheters and surgical appliances.

"Advancing biotechnology has enabled incorporation of ionizable silver into fabrics for clinical use to reduce the risk of nosocomial [hospital] infections and for personal hygiene."

What is colloidal silver?

While silver comes in different forms, the colloidal variety is commonly found in health food stores and pharmacies. It has long been a popular treatment among aficionados of alternative health.

Colloidal silver consists of microscopic silver particles suspended in water. They are so tiny they can be taken up by cells where, by electromagnetic attraction, they pull unhealthy or dead cells into the blood for elimination.

Particle size is critical. In true colloidal silver, particles make up 50 - 80% of the solution. The rest are silver ions produced by electrolysis.

As this is expensive to make, colloidal silver is usually sold in the form of ionic silver, which is made up of only 10% silver particles, or as silver protein. The former may be useful for topical application, while the latter is poorly absorbed and would confer few if any benefits.

It's also possible to purchase colloidal silver generators and make your own.

People commonly use colloidal silver to treat conditions such as wounds, swellings, skin, eye, ear and sinus infections, and to ward off colds and flu.

As we shall see, there have also been testimonials from people claiming they cured themselves of cancer thanks to colloidal silver.

Early cancer experiments

In the 1980s, Robert O. Becker, M.D., author of The Body Electric and Cross Currents, carried out experiments in which he passed very low currents between pure silver electrodes to create a stream of silver ions.

Passing them through lab-cultured cancer cells caused the cells to dedifferentiate - to return to primitive stem cells - and re-differentiate into healthy specialized cells.

Unfortunately, Dr. Becker was not allowed to complete his work; his funding was mysteriously cut off.

Recent research findings

In 2012, a research team from the University of Leeds, England exposed colon and breast cancer cells to a number of silver-based compounds over a six-day period.

The silver treatments were found to be "as effective" as the chemotherapy drug cisplatin, with potentially fewer side effects. Of course, I wouldn’t think that side effects could be identified from an experiment on cells grown in a dish.

The scientists aren't sure why silver is effective but believe it is due to molecules that are attached to silver atoms which help transport silver ions into cancer cells.

According to lead researcher Dr. Charlotte Willans, "It's certainly an exciting discovery [which] could lead to a cheaper, less toxic alternative to current treatments for cancer."

Sliver nanoparticles

Another study looked at using super-microscopic particles called silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on cancer cells in tumor-bearing mice. The researchers found that survival times increased by 50% compared to controls. Elevated white blood cell and platelet counts were returned to near-normal with no toxic effects.

AgNPs increased the activation of caspase 3 proteins which induced the cells to self-destruct. The greater the dose, the greater the effect.

The conclusion was that "These findings confirm the antitumor properties of AgNPs, and suggest that they may be a cost-effective alternative in the treatment of cancer..."

A team of researchers from Mexico also tested nanoparticles of colloidal silver on a line of breast cancer cells called MCF-7. This produced similar results to the previous study. They concluded that "colloidal silver might be a potential alternative agent for human breast cancer therapy."

Scientists from Iran (Avicenna’s homeland) tested nanosilver on a cell line of bone cancer and found "concentration-dependent toxicity..." (Toxic, that is, to the cancer cells.)

They wrote, "Many attempts have been made to use silver nanoparticles as an anti-cancer agent and they have all turned up positive. The role of silver nanoparticles as an anti-cancer agent should open new doors in the field of medicine.

"In general, silver nanoparticles should serve as one of the best ways of treating diseases that involve cell proliferation and cell death."

In the most recent study, published in Scientific Reports in July, 2017, silver nanoparticles were coated with albumin protein. This proved to be three to five times more effective at carrying silver into cancer cells than non-coated particles, yet still not toxic enough to kill healthy cells.

The researchers concluded that albumin coated silver nanoparticles "should be considered as an effective anticancer agent."

Colloidal silver success stories

Silver nanoparticles are only used in research. As yet there are no human studies, but many people have tried using oral colloidal silver to treat their cancers even though the particles are larger and the dose lower than in the nanosilver lab studies.

Two brothers with prostate cancer refused standard treatment, purchased a generator and drank two pints a day of home-made micro-particle colloidal silver instead. Both claim to have recovered as a result.

The amounts drunk were astronomical, with the serious risk they would end up with irreversible bluish-gray skin, a condition called argyria, as a result of overdosing on silver.

It may have worked out for them but definitely not recommended. Unless you want to be blue for the rest of your life.

A woman with breast cancer drank a few ounces of colloidal silver between meals, together with Essiac tea. Six months later the cancer was gone and she has been in remission for six years.

A man with kidney cancer scheduled for surgery in four weeks used colloidal silver as part of a comprehensive natural treatment protocol. In due course the surgery was canceled because there was no trace of cancer.

Finally, a man with basal cell carcinoma on his leg drank two ounces of sliver a day and also used it topically. Four months later there was a major turnaround in his condition with before and after pictures demonstrating a phenomenal rate of healing.

I haven’t heard of side effects other than the risk of permanently turning blue. That apparently happens after taking very large amounts of colloidal silver over a long period of time. Still, I have to say I don’t know what a safe dose might be, and normally, when it comes to most natural remedies, cancer requires large doses.

From what I know (not much besides what I’ve told you here), colloidal silver is safe for colds and flu and other infections, in moderate amounts for brief periods. I just don’t know enough about high dosages to feel comfortable recommending it to cancer patients.
