The Hip Fracture
That Didn’t Happen

Ellen took plenty of calcium. She exercised religiously. She even put wild yam cream on her thighs. So when her doctor told her how weak her bones had become, she was shocked.

Luckily, Ellen was able to beat the odds — by taking advantage of a new bone-building breakthrough.

Ellen P. did all the “right” things. She took plenty of calcium. She ate dairy and soy. She did weight-bearing exercises. She even put wild yam cream on her thighs. So when her doctor told her she had weakened bones, she was shocked.

Ellen is not alone. Despite their best efforts, millions of women have weak bones. In fact, 300,000 women suffer a hip fracture every year!

From there, it gets worse. One out of five women who suffer hip fractures die within a year. And half the women who do survive never fully recover and require long-term nursing care.

The good news is that Ellen was able to beat the odds. How? By taking advantage of a new bone-building breakthrough that I’m going to tell you about in a moment.

Coconut oil can rev up your metabolism even more than protein — an important factor if you’re trying to lose weight. Your body absorbs certain fatty acids in coconut oil easily and burns them fast. Consuming coconut oil even helps you burn the bad fats from steak or ice cream.

Dr. Julian Whitaker, a well-known authority on alternative medicine, compares the type of fats found in coconut oil to rolled-up newspaper soaked with gasoline. These remarkable fats spark a metabolic fire in your body that burns up calories.

Studies appear to prove this amazing result. It’s all thanks to coconut oil’s medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs). One study compared the thermogenic (fat-burning) effect of a 40% MCFA diet against a 40% long chain fatty acid (LCFA) diet. The thermogenic effect of the MCFAs was nearly double — 120 calories versus 66 calories.1

A follow-up study showed a whopping 50 percent increase in fat-burning over a six day period, all thanks to this easy change in diet. Not eating less, just eating differently.2

This may be the easiest thing
you can do to improve your health

As you might have guessed, the standard American diet (SAD) is loaded with unhealthy LCFAs and has almost no MCFAs, like those found in coconut oil. You can switch to MCFAs and solve this problem overnight — and your food tastes even better when prepared with this type of oil. I switched to coconut oil more than three years ago and I’ve never looked back.

Coconut oil is easy to use. Simply replace your other baking, cooking, frying, and eating oils with coconut oil. It’s the most stable cooking oil. Unlike a great many oils, it doesn’t produce carcinogens at high temps. From boiled rice to popcorn, I do almost all my cooking with coconut oil. It’s delicious. There’s no soybean, canola, safflower or sunflower oil at my house.

A study at McGill University in Canada suggests that if you replace all the long chain oils (LCFAs) in your diet you could lose up to 36 pounds of excess fat in a year… without changing your diet or reducing calories.3As Bruce Fife, author of the book The Coconut Oil Miracle puts it, “All you need is an oil change.”

Use it on vegetables, add it to smoothies… Be creative. Or buy one of the many coconut oil cookbooks available online. Start experimenting.

In another study, scientists compared the impact of just eating a single meal of MCFAs compared to LCFAs. Their findings shocked me, and I think they’ll shock you, too: The MCFA group had a fat-burning rate 3 times that of the LCFA group over a 6 hour period.4

Still another study showed a more striking thermogenic increase in obese people than in others.5 You’ve got nothing to lose — except the extra weight you don’t want anyway.

But you have far more to gain than just a smaller waist. Here’s a surprise: Losing weight is probably the LEAST important benefit of this incredible food.

Worldwide, it’s used to address this astounding array of health problems:

1. Abscesses

2. Asthma

3. Bronchitis

4. Bruises

5. Burns

6. Colds, sore throat, & cough

7. Dysentary

8. Fevers & flu

9. Gonorrhea & sylphilis

10. Jaundice

11. Kidney stones

12. Lice & dandruff

13. Malnutrition

14. Nausea, upset stomach

15. Skin rashes & infections

16. Toothache & gingivitis

17. Tuberculosis

18. Tumors / cancer

The amazing ‘Tree of Life’…

Coconut’s scientific name is Cocos nucifera — from the word for nut-bearing (nucifera) and coco (monkey face). Early Spanish explorers called the hairy coconut a name that means ‘monkey face’ because that’s what it looked like to them, thanks to its three ‘eyes’ (indentations).

In many parts of the world it’s a primary food source. One third of the world’s people rely on it for their food and their livelihood.

From the coconut we get meat, juice, milk, water, and oil. It is so rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals that it’s considered a ‘functional food’ — boasting health benefits far beyond what the list of ingredients might imply.

Pacific Islanders consider coconut oil to be the universal cure for all illness. They treasure it so highly for both food and medicine that they call it the ‘Tree of Life’.

Unlock its vast array of medicinal uses…

Respected and used for centuries in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) and folk medicine, coconut oil is finding its stride in 21st century medicine as well.

It almost seems too good to be true. But a multitude of published studies show its many amazing benefits:

1. Kills viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeasts and parasites

2. Promotes weight loss

3. Relieves symptoms of diabetes, cystic fibrosis, osteoporosis, gallbladder disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and stomach ulcers

4. Protects from breast, colon and other cancers

5. Protects your heart, improves cholesterol, reduces arterial injury leading to artherosclerosis

6. Reduces inflammation, is a powerful antioxidant

7. Dissolves kidney stones, helps prevent liver disease, and supports thyroid function

8. Promotes healthy hair and skin, guards against the signs of aging

9. Offers a nutritional blast of energy, helpful for athletes, ill persons, infants and the elderly, and patients recovering from surgery…

Saturated oil can help you — regardless of what you’ve heard…

Coconut oil is more than 90% saturated fat. You may wonder how saturated oil can possibly be positive, when almost everything you’ve heard about it is negative.

Not all saturated oils are alike. Each one has a unique structure.

There are two ways to classify fat molecules — one of which is by the length of its carbon chain. Fatty acids can be either: (1) Short (SCFA), (2) Medium (MCFA), or (3) Long (LCFA) Chain.

The fats and oils in the typical American diet are 98-100% LCFAs. But the size of a fatty acid is critical. The effects of medium-chain fatty acids on the body are drastically different from those of unhealthy long-chain fatty acids.

Fifty years of research reveal that the way the body absorbs MCFAs is different from the way it absorbs LCFAs. Due to their smaller molecular size, MCFAs are broken down with ease by your body, no pancreatic enzymes required.

This has profound implications for anyone suffering from serious or life-threatening illness, premature infants, people with digestive problems… in addition to those with diabetes, obesity, Crohn’s disease, gallbladder disease, and some types of cancer.

LCFAs are a whole different story. The body has trouble breaking them down. Eat enough of them and you may find yourself with higher triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

MCFA or medium-chain fatty acids produce energy. Other dietary fats produce body fat. So it seems the whole ‘fat’ story is different from what we’ve been told.

Coconut oil is almost entirely MCFAs. Unlike LCFAs, they don’t raise cholesterol. They actually protect your heart. Studies show that a patient’s total cholesterol to HDL ratio improves if he or she eats non-hydrogenated coconut oil.6 7 8

You might be interested to know that outside of breast milk, pure coconut oil is nature’s most plentiful source of lauric acid. Sometimes I think the benefits are almost endless.

Boosts your energy level, too!

Studies show that the MCFAs of coconut oil boost energy levels for athletes and non-athletes alike.

One mouse study compared the physical endurance of mice given MCFA versus those who weren’t, over a six-week period. The researchers put the mice through a swimming endurance test on alternate days. Total swimming time until exhaustion was measured. At first there was little difference between the groups, but soon the MCFA group began out-performing the others. They kept on improving throughout the testing period, suggesting that MCFAs can enhance endurance and exercise performance.9

In another study, well conditioned cyclists (humans, this time!) pedaled for three hours. During the last hour they were each given a beverage (with or without MCFAs) to drink. Those receiving MCFA-spiked beverages out-performed the others.10

May fight cancer by building your immune system

A Japanese study suggests that a diet high in MCFAs may protect against cancer, far better than the LCFAs so common in the American diet.11

Dr. Bruce Fife, mentioned above, discusses the anti-cancer impact of MCFAs in his book… specifically citing benefits for colon, mammary and skin cancers.12

Evidence suggests that MCFAs are easily absorbed and converted to ketones. A ketogenic (very low carbohydrate) diet may squelch cancer cells.

Two children with advanced-stage, malignant astrocytoma tumors (a type of brain cancer) were fed a 60% MCFA diet. Within 7 days, their blood glucose levels fell to low-normal levels, and blood ketones were elevated 20 to 30 fold. PET scans showed a 21.8% average decrease in glucose uptake at the tumor site in both subjects.

What If coconut could beat Alzheimer’s disease?

Dr. Julian Whitaker, MD — in his newsletter Health & Healing, the October 2009 issue — writes about the amazing breakthrough discovery of using coconut oil to restore brain function.

But it was Dr. Mary Newport, M.D., who first pioneered the treatment as a therapy for her husband, who had Alzheimer’s.

In Alzheimer’s, neurons slowly die off because they are unable to take in glucose due to insulin resistance. The theory is that if these cells have access to ketone bodies, they could potentially stay alive and functional.

Dr. Newport began giving her husband 7 teaspoons per day of coconut oil, and saw a marked improvement within hours. It’s quite a dramatic story, which you can read more about at http://www.coconutketones.com/whatifcure.pdf.

Mainstream medicine demonized fats
(and was wrong, as usual)

You’ve been brainwashed for the past five to six decades to believe that coconut oil is the ‘artery clogging oil’ — a term coined many decades ago by the president of Proctor and Gamble, the manufacturer of Crisco and other hydrogenated vegetable oils. The conflict of interest is obvious.

The big attack on saturated fats got underway around 20 to 30 years ago. Originally, mainstream medicine told us we had high cholesterol because of the cholesterol we ate in our food, mainly from eggs and other animal products.

That turned out to be wrong. Dietary cholesterol makes very little difference to your blood cholesterol level. You don’t EAT the cholesterol that shows up in a blood test — your body makes it. Giving up eggs and so forth proved an almost totally ineffective way of bringing down patients’ cholesterol levels.

So mainstream medicine, with its cholesterol obsession, then seized on saturated fats — ALL saturated fats — as the devil that raises cholesterol and causes heart and artery disease. As a saturated fat, coconut oil was condemned in this general attack. Some years ago, movie theaters were pressured to stop making popcorn with coconut oil, thanks to the crusade against saturated fats. It happens that coconut oil makes the most delicious popcorn, and the theaters quietly went back to using it.

Some so-called nutrition experts actually tell people to eat all the carbs they want, just avoid saturated fats. And, maybe worse, they advise people to use unsaturated vegetable oils like canola oil and safflower oil.

This misinformation still has an unshakeable grip on some people. The local health food café in my town still uses canola oil and avoids healthy saturated fats like coconut oil. Don’t be taken in. There’s now a vast amount of information proving all fats are not alike, and medium chain fats are the best.

If you’re ready to claim the health benefits of coconut oil for yourself, you’ll easily find it at almost all health food stores. (Fortunately, at least some people have freed themselves of the canola oil nonsense).

Make sure you buy only virgin coconut oil, which has a delicate coconut taste, not refined or hydrogenated coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil looks crystal clear in liquid form. It turns into a cloudy white solid below 76°F. I know summer’s arrived at my house when my coconut oil changes from a solid to a liquid.

And please be aware that coconut oil is just one part of a plan for good health. It’s not a standalone magic bullet. Despite the wondrous benefits, it doesn’t give you a license to live on ice cream and potato chips the rest of the time. Even though it builds immunity and protects against infections, it doesn’t fight the common cold. And you still need protein, B and C vitamins, and other nutrients.
