The head honchos at a Denmark pharmaceutical company are likely feeling pretty giddy now that they’ve found a possible cure for sun spots and skin cancer. In case you missed it, the medical profession has used skin cancer to scare people half to death, what with all the warnings to stay out of the sun and slather on sun block. The only problem is…
…what the drug maker really found is a way to package and profit from an age-old remedy that Mother Nature provides FREE OF CHARGE!
And, oh yeah, there’s another problem: the skin cancer they’re curing may not be worth worrying about.
But if you’re like most Americans you’ve probably had the fear of skin cancer drummed into your head, so let’s take a look at this new cure. . .
According to a statement from LEO Pharma1, the company has developed a gel using juice from the radium weed plant. The new gel reportedly causes sun spots and skin cancer to vanish.
Radium weed is also known as petty spurge or milkweed. Native to Europe, Asia, and northern Africa, the plant has been a well-known cure for warts, corns, calluses, and skin cancers for centuries.
And this may not be the only cancer radium weed attacks…
Low concentrations of the plant sap have been shown to attack tumor cells in the colon and kidney.2
And according to a statement from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Research3 group, radium weed may also hold the key to treating an aggressive form of bone cancer.
In September 2009, LEO Pharma acquired the Australia-based pharmaceutical company Peplin, Inc., whose researchers initiated and conducted the original trials for a skin cancer gel.
Peplin, Inc. developed the gel as a topical treatment for pre-cancerous lesions known as actinic (solar) keratosis (AK). Left untreated, AK can lead to full blown skin cancer, according to the medical establishment.
During the clinical trial, over 125 patients applied the gel once a day for two days. Researchers found the gel successfully removed every sun spot on 27 percent of patients, with another 44 percent experiencing partial success.
What’s more, LEO Pharma said the skin cancer gel produced no major side effects apart from temporary redness and flaking skin.
This is probably why generations of moms and grandmas used the plant sap to treat skin conditions and tumors!
How Serious a Problem is Skin Cancer?
(Quick answer: not very)
The American Cancer Society4 says skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. In fact, skin cancer officially accounts for more than half of all cancers. But that statistic is bogus.
Here’s why: most skin cancers are minor — and in fact a great many of them (basal cell carcinomas) pose no threat to life at all, in my opinion. That doesn’t keep dermatologists from doing a massive, multibillion-dollar business cutting them out.
When you include the exams, biopsies, lab tests and follow-up visits, the cost of removing a tiny basal cell carcinoma can range as high as $600.
It think it’s bad medical practice and borderline fraud. The truth is, these little spots aren’t much more serious than a pimple.
I speak from experience. I had a number of basal cell carcinomas removed before I got suspicious and did my own research. I found out they were harmless. I stopped seeing the crook and went to a new dermatologist whom I trust.
The new doctor admitted what I’d begun to suspect. I asked her if she’d ever in her whole life seen even one case of a basal cell carcinoma growing into something serious, much less life-threatening.
She told me that in 15 years she’d seen only one such case, and the man also had leukemia. In all likelihood his immune system had collapsed and that’s why the basal cell carcinoma spread.
That’s what I was told by a dermatologist who’s seen thousands of patients with basal cell carcimonas.
Since then I’ve done extensive reading on this matter and it all confirms what I’m telling you now. I also found that the facts about squamous cell carcinoma, another low-risk skin cancer, are similar to those for basal cell carcinoma.
Most of the time, basal cell carcinomas can be left alone. You should keep an eye on them, but no action is required and probably never will be. If they appear to get worse, it’s a snap to remove them. The danger they’ll spread to other organs is almost non-existent.
Nationwide, the authorities claim about 1,200 people per year die of basal cell or squamous cell carcinomas. That’s a tiny number of deaths when it comes to cancer, and it’s certainly not worth the vast, aggressive over-treating of these little skin blemishes.
The Real Skin Cancer is Serious
The serious type of skin cancer — the one you have to worry about — is melanoma. It causes more than 11,000 deaths each year. Still not a huge number in the cancer world, but worth paying attention to — and melanoma is easy to treat in the early stages. I’ve heard it called “a rare but aggressive cancer,” and that’s a pretty accurate description.
Unfortunately, LEO Pharma’s new gel primarily focuses on treating basal cell carcinoma — the one that’s harmless. From what I can see, it might be worth checking out their gel if it wins FDA approval and becomes available. It might be a good way to treat these little blemishes, especially if some doctor is pressuring you to let him cut them out. But LEO Pharma’s gel doesn’t qualify as a big new lifesaver.
Lars Olsen, LEO Pharma’s Executive Vice President for Research & Development, praised the cancer gel as an important addition to the company’s “robust dermatology pipeline.”
The company expects to file for regulatory approval for the treatment in the US and Europe in 2011. They hope to market their ‘discovery’ by the following year.
But why wait for the drug when the natural plant remedy is available today? You might check out two natural radium weed/milkweed cream or gel products I found on the Net:
I haven’t tried them, but if you have a basal a cell carcinoma (which I call a “cancer pimple”) they’re probably worth a shot.
From what I can learn, the active compounds of radium weed are a non-invasive and effective treatment for these skin lesions resulting from various causes of skin cancer.
Plus, radium weed does this without resorting to the burning… cutting… systemic poisoning… and other harmful and disfiguring techniques of other cancer treatments!
