Toxic chemical condemned 8 men to die of prostate cancer
. . .but one of them escaped. Here's how he did it!

John S. watched helplessly as 7 of his Vietnam platoon buddies died of prostate cancer, one by one. They were exposed to chemicals during the war that caused them to get cancer when they reached middle age. Then, in 2002, John found out it was his turn. He got opinions from three different doctors and they all told him the same thing: he'd need a miracle to survive.

John found the miracle he needed. Four years after his diagnosis, he told us, "I am healthy and happy with no symptoms of the disease." He actually wishes he'd gotten the disease sooner so he could have told his Army buddies this secret. It might have saved their lives.

We're ALL exposed every day to chemicals similar to the ones that killed these veterans. A man is just about certain to get prostate cancer if he lives long enough. That means John's life-saving secret is big news for men everywhere. Click here and keep reading. . .

The treatment is exercise. If you really want to get well, as opposed to dreaming about getting well, exercise is not optional. It's mandatory. Multiple studies show it reduces the risk of cancer by half or more. I'm not talking about strenuous exercise, either. I'm talking about mild, easy exercise.

The latest such study, in the June 1 edition of the journal Cancer Research, revealed that brisk walking arrested the progress of early-stage prostate cancer (cancer that hasn't spread to other parts of the body).

Among the 1,455 men followed in this study, those who walked at least three miles per hour for three hours or more per week were 57 percent less likely to see their cancer make a comeback. To put it another way, the men who DIDN'T exercise were more than twice as likely to get cancer again and need a second round of treatment.

The researchers reported that the men benefited from physical activity independently of what age they were, what type of treatment they'd received, or the clinical features of the disease at the time of diagnosis. In other words, almost everyone benefits.

You need to make your heart do a little bit of work

Three miles per hour is a fairly fast pace. I've seen other studies showing that leisurely walking three times a week, a half hour each time, also drives down cancer rates. But these researchers emphasize the need to go for a harder workout. "Our results suggest that it is important to engage in exercise that gets your heart rate up a bit," said one of the scientists, June Chan, ScD of the University of California, San Francisco.

"The benefit from walking truly depended on how quickly you walked," said another member of the team, Erin Richman, ScD, a post-doctoral fellow at the same university. "Walking at an easy pace did not seem to have any benefit."

I'd put an asterisk on that finding and advise folks to look at other studies.Doing something is better than doing nothing. A leisurely half hour walk three times a week helps. So don't stay on the couch just because an hour sounds like too much.

It's not just about prostate health, either. Similar studies have shown that exercise helps prevent and cure breast cancer and colon cancer as well. The results for both are very strong. A study led by Michelle D. Holmes, M.D., professor at Harvard Medical School, found that women who walked one to three hours a week at a moderate pace had a 20 percent reduced risk of breast cancer death. Among women who walked three to five hours a week, the risk was reduced by 50 percent.

And, as I said, you'll feel better fast. Among other things, it's a great stress-reliever, and stress is a major cause of cancer. I don't know about you, but a 50 percent reduction in cancer risk that's FREE is worth my attention.

FDA links BPH drugs to prostate cancer

Some other news about prostate cancer is not so good, at least for men relying on conventional treatments. A class of drugs that's supposed to relieve BPH (enlarged prostate) actually increased the chance of getting an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA has demanded a change on the labels of all such drugs to reflect the newly found danger. At the same time, they continue to insist the drugs' benefits outweigh the risks.

The drugs in question are Merck & Co's Proscar, GlaxoSmithKline's Avodar and Jalyn, as well as a drug used to treat male pattern baldness, Merck & Co's Propecia. As a class these drugs are called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

The FDA made its move after reviewing two large studies that showed daily use of these drugs for several years reduced the risk of less aggressive forms of prostate cancer but increased the risk of getting more aggressive forms — those that grow and spread more quickly.

Something like 10 percent of prostate cancers are aggressive, and they're the ones a man really has to worry about. The other 90 percent -- the slower-growing forms — are so non-threatening, many men choose the "watchful waiting approach" rather than submitting to surgery and radiation at the first sign of cancer.

It's important for you to know you've got the "watchful waiting" option because many doctors will try to hustle you into surgery, radiation or chemotherapy as if you've got weeks to live. The reality is that there's a nine-out-of-ten chance your prostate cancer is NOT aggressive. You can go for ten years or more without worry.

To get a full explanation of all your best options for prostate cancer, you really should get a copy of my Special Report, Don't Touch My Prostate. I don't say this merely because I wrote it, although that has something to do with it. This report really is the best cure for "prostate diagnosis panic," the feeling that sets in when the doctor first tells you you've got prostate cancer. Instead of letting the doctor order you around, read up, know what's really going on, and take charge of your own decisions.

Watchful waiting is the strategy I recommend but it does carry some risk. You could be unlucky and your cancer could be the one out of ten that's aggressive. To guard against this, I'd have frequent PSA tests and perhaps ultrasounds and digital rectal exams to boot. One PSA test isn't worth much by itself, but a series of them, in which the numbers keep climbing, can be the sign of a serious problem.

The constant testing might be a nuisance, but the inconvenience is nothing compared to the damage the mainstream treatments will do you! Prostate surgery and radiation are major disasters. You want to do everything possible to avoid them, and this report will help you decide what.

While you're watchfully waiting, get some exercise, eat healthier and try some of the gentle, natural treatments recommended in Don't Touch My Prostate.

By the way, if you're taking conventional prescription drugs for BPH and the new findings scare you, there's another class of BPH drugs called alpha-blockers that haven't been tagged as causing aggressive prostate cancer. I don't recommend going the drug route, but if you insist, the drugs of this type include Astellas Pharma's Flomax, Pfizer Inc.'s Cardura, and Rapaflo from Watson Pharmaceuticals.

You might even be able to get rid of your prostate cancer with baking soda. If you missed this amazing bit of news in last Wednesday's issue, scroll down and take a look now.
