Could an Ancient Plant Resin Save 1.5 Million Lives a Year?

Could an Ancient Plant Resin Save 1.5 Million Lives a Year? about undefined
Ancient Egyptians attributed almost mystical powers to this resin… and it’s been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. That was enough to make it valuable cargo along ancient trade routes.

Before indoor plumbing enabled people to bathe frequently, they used the sweet smoke of this resin to make themselves smell better. Egyptian women mixed it into their eye shadow.

But there was more to it than a nice smell. It had medicinal uses in the ancient world. Now science is gaining a new appreciation for the things the ancients figured out by observation or trial and error. And they’ve found this is a powerful pain and cancer remedy.

Here’s the story. . .

Breast Cancer Survivor was told: “You’ll be dead in a year” (Pssst!! That was 12 years ago!)

Doctors didn’t give Wiltrude much hope when they diagnosed her with cancer in the year 2000. Wiltrude, a German psychologist, never thought cancer would happen to her. But it did. And it came as a big shock.

One doctor told her, “You’ll be dead in a year.” Late stage breast cancer is virtually incurable using conventional treatments. Even M.D.s admit it. They talk about “buying you more time.” (Don’t count on it. The evidence shows you’re better off doing nothing than chemo.)

When Wiltrude told her doctor she was going to try alternative treatments, he said, “You are committing suicide with what you’re doing.” But she was determined to find a way to beat her cancer.

Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, this European woman came across a book by my good friend Bill Henderson, one of the smartest and wisest people I know when it comes to cancer treatment.

She tried Bill’s top, number one recommendation — a gentle treatment you can do at home for just $5.15 a day. What’s more, the cost goes down to $3.50 after six weeks because you just need a maintenance dose. And it even tastes good.

Not only has Wiltrude passed the five-year cancer survival mark, she’s survived for 12 years. We just interviewed her recently for this publication. The radiologist who tests her every year told her, “You’re the only one with this kind of result.”

You can find out more about Bill’s proven cancer treatment plan if you click here.

When I ask him about some of the treatments that top alternative doctors use, Bill sort of shrugs and says, “They’re fine, but why bother? My treatment works, you can do it yourself, and it costs practically nothing.”

He’s coached thousands of cancer patients with all different types and stages of cancer. Most of the people who follow the detailed, specific plan in this Special Report get over their cancer and live for years.

“Almost any kind of cancer is reversible,” says Bill. “I never give up on anyone.”Click here to learn more about Bill’s amazing cancer protocol.
Boswellia resin (frankincense) comes from a scrubby tree that we’d probably consider a mere shrub.

The word frankincense literally means “high quality incense.” Its scent is piney and lemony with a sweet, woody aroma.

Its active components are its boswellic acids. And because of them, there’s more to love about boswellia than its famous fragrance. But first it’s important to understand how boswellia overcomes…

The enzyme of death

By now I’m sure you’ve heard how chronic inflammation is closely associated with the world’s most deadly chronic diseases, including cancer.

But it might shock you to learn that of the ten leading causes of death in the U.S., seven – including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes – are linked to one single enzyme.i This enzyme is called 5-lipoxygenase… 5-LOX for short. Too much 5-LOX, and you get a cascade of dangerous inflammation rampaging through your whole body. It‘s lethal.

Excess 5-LOX cripples and kills millions of Americans every year.

When you make poor dietary choices, you create an overload of arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is found in foods such as egg yolk, red meat, poultry, and organ meat, plus omega-6 fats and high-starch carbs (French fries, potato chips, corn chips…).

To remove arachidonic acid, your body ups production of 5-LOX.

High 5-LOX and degraded arachidonic acid team up to fuel the production of other inflammatory molecules called leukotrienes – linked in hundreds of studies to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It’s also implicated in Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Increased 5-LOX and leukotrienes trigger cancer cell proliferation and metastasis – while interfering with apoptosis (programmed cancer cell death).

A healthier diet can help slash 5-LOX levels, but considering the odds, you may want to hedge your bets.

High deaths from 5-LOX related diseases

Diseases caused – at least in part -- by excess 5-lipoxygenase kill far more people every year than you imagine… over 1.5 million.

Not surprisingly, heart disease and cancer lead the way, at 596,577 and 576,691 deaths respectively.ii Following these (in descending order) are respiratory diseases (asthma and COPD), Alzheimer’s, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, and kidney disease.

But excess 5-LOX and leukotrienes also stir up painful conditions like arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Big pharma’s failed 5-LOX blockers

Drug companies have known about 5-LOX and its link to arthritis for years, and tried to develop safe drugs to block it.

But finding a safe 5-LOX inhibitor has proven elusive. Even “safe” over-the-counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) have a horrible safety track record. These popular drugs are linked to a host of side effects from stomach ulcers, heart attack and kidney failure, to hearing loss.

Why risk such severe consequences when you have all-natural boswellia?

Stomp out cancer-related inflammation

One of the boswellic acids, AKBA, can bind directly to the 5-LOX enzyme and stop it from producing inflammatory leukotrienes.iii, iv AKBA stops cancer cell proliferation in several ways. It:
  1. Induces apoptosis – programmed cell death – by switching on the aptly named “death receptor” on cancer cell surfaces. This activates the “suicide” pathways inside cancer cells.
  2. Blocks the signals cancer cells use to replicate.
  3. Suppresses a tumor growth factor called VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) that cancers need to grow new blood vessels.
  4. Discerns the difference between healthy and cancerous tissue. So it quells tumor cells but spares normal ones.
  5. Suppresses the activity of a cellular receptor called CXCR4 – used by cancer cells to trigger metastases, which account for 90% of cancer deaths.
  6. Shuts down the master inflammation regulatory complex NF-kappaB in tumor cells, bringing about early tumor death and regression.
Indeed, reducing inflammation is one of your most important preventive strategies.

Useful against numerous types of cancer

Emerging evidence shows AKBA’s efficacy against many cancers. Understandable, since boswellia nips inflammation in the bud… and inflammation is present if not causative in all cancers.

Boswellic acids show promise against brain, prostate, bladder, cervical, and colon cancers… and also for multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer).

This ancient remedy also decreases brain swelling from glioblastoma, allowing fewer anti-inflammatory drugs. It can reduce or replace steroid use in brain tumors, which is important because steroids interfere with glioma cell apoptosis. Boswellia also kills glioblastoma cells in a dose-dependent manner.

In bladder cancer, it’s been shown that boswellia can selectively kill cancer cells and leave the healthy ones alone.

Increased 5-LOX in prostate tissue contributes to inflammation and prostate swelling (benign prostatic hypertrophy or BHP) as well as prostate cancer. Boswellia halts the 5-LOX damage.

An animal study showed that AKBA slashed the number of precancerous polyps by 49% in the small intestine and by 60% in the colon. And it kept them from turning malignant.

Boswellia may suppress tumor growth in pancreatic and colorectal cancers, and in some cases it may outright prevent tumor growth (prostate and glioma). In the lab, boswellic acid suppressed viability and induced apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells.v Does that mean it will cure your cancer? Not necessarily. More study is needed to determine that, especially human studies. But its effects on 5-LOX are promising.

You might want to add boswellia to your dietary supplement plan for other reasons too…

Could help prevent a heart attack

Following the 1991 discovery that 5-LOX was involved with atherosclerosis – hardening of the arteries -- the hunt was on for a 5-LOX inhibitor that could reverse heart disease.

Now boswellia is gaining intense interest among heart specialists, because it…
  • Is a powerful free radical quencher.
  • Lowered cholesterol by up to 48% and boosted HDL (“good” cholesterol) by as much as 30% in one study.vi
  • Prevented formation of atherosclerotic lesions by favorably modulating 113 genes – all of which are involved in blood vessel inflammation.
  • Can cause a 50% reduction in the size of atherosclerotic lesions, thanks to the action of AKBAvii
  • Prevents your blood from getting too sticky – vital to preventing stroke and heart attack.

Reduce the pain and immobility of arthritis

Boswellia could give you your life back if you suffer from arthritis, though it appears to be more promising for common osteoarthritis than for the more serious (and rare) rheumatoid arthritis.

One study found that ALL 30 patients with osteoarthritic knee pain reported decreased pain and an increase in how far they could walk when they took boswellia.viii A second study found that increasing boswellia dosage led to increased physical activity, decreased pain, and lowered levels of a cartilage-degrading enzyme. Improvements were seen as early as seven days into the 90-day study.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) studies show mixed results. One published study found boswellia helps reduce RA joint swelling, but no other benefits. Now some studies suggest it might disrupt the autoimmune process, making it a viable RA therapy.

Don’t die for lack of air

Leukotrienes cause constricted bronchial tissue (asthma). Patients taking boswellia experienced fewer asthma symptoms… suggesting it could play an important role in treating or preventing asthma.

Besides inhibiting 5-LOX, boswellic acids also inhibit other inflammatory triggers.
  • The boswellian compound, incensole acetate, regulates inflammation at a high level by inhibiting the master inflammatory regulatory complex called NF-kappaB, slowing system-wide chronic inflammation.
  • It also inhibits brain inflammation, important for brain injuries because debilitating inflammation follows brain injury within hours.
  • In animal studies, this same compound also halted brain cell degeneration in the hippocampus, a part of the brain critical to memory processing. The finding has implications for Alzheimer’s prevention.
Boswellic acid can help with inflammatory bowel diseases including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and collagenous colitis. 5-LOX is a factor in each of them. 350 mg daily caused an impressive 82% remission rate in human patients with advanced ulcerative colitis.

A couple of cautions…

Boswellia can stimulate blood flow in the uterus and pelvis, possibly accelerating menstrual flow or inducing miscarriage.

It may also interact with medications. So talk to your doctor, especially if you take ibuprofen, aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Though uncommon, some people may experience side effects such as acid reflux, nausea, diarrhea, or skin rashes.

Despite these caveats, boswellia appears to be a great life-enhancing supplement. I take this supplement myself every day. Our sister company, Green Valley Natural Solutions, offers a dose of the most powerful form of boswellia my researchers were able to find, called ApresFlex®. The supplement also contains silymarin – a milk thistle extract -- likewise a valuable (and safe) nutrient. It’s a joint support supplement, but boswellia is boswellia and inflammation is inflammation.

There are other boswellia supplements readily available on the Web and (albeit less often) in retail health stores.

Kindest regards,

Lee Euler, Publisher
